Tiggy Winkles Wildlife Hospital

Every year in Britain over five million wild animals and birds are injured as a direct result of their encounters with man and man’s world.

Tiggywinkles, The Wildlife Hospital Trust, is a specialist hospital dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating all species of British wildlife.

At Tiggywinkles Visitor Centre you get the chance to see hedgehogs, deer, ducks and foxes, and even badgers.

We met Helmet the tortoise – and you can see him in our video:

The hospital caters for groups – book in advance and there is a craft corner and play area for younger visitors.

You may also get to discover what happened to Spud the ‘hairless’ hedgehog and find out how he is getting on.

Believe it or not, ‘Spud’ is a normal hedgehog except that, obviously, he has no spines. In the wild he would have died or been killed by a predator.
